Children ReadingA special thanks to the volunteers from our church who come to MDO/SSP  to share their love of reading with our children.  Reading books and talking together about the stories helps preschoolers develop language skills.
 Other helpful hints:
· Encourage your children to talk about what they did each day
· Ask questions that require longer answers than just “yes” or “no”
· Encourage them to learn and use new words
· Take time to listen attentively

A Few Reminders…
· King/Lee Holiday— Monday, Jan. 19  MDO/SSP will be closed
· It’s almost time to register for next year!  Pre-registration for currently enrolled students begins Feb. 9 for the 2009-2010 school year.
· Dates for MDO Summer Camp have changed due to a conflict with other church activities.  New dates:  June 22-      July 16.  Mark your calendar and join the fun!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing holiday!  I enjoyed a few days off and the opportunity to visit with my children in Montgomery.  Now I look forward to getting back to school and singing, learning, and playing with your children.  What wonderful and exciting things our teachers have planned for the children to explore and enjoy.

Ask your child about the story they will be hearing in Music Class— Peter and the Wolf, a musical fairy tale in which all the characters are represented by different instruments of the orchestra.  The children will be able to help tell the story using stick puppets for each character as they listen to the music.

We’re looking forward to a fun Fabulous Friday! this month at Mellow Mushroom.  The children, along with the parents, will enjoy seeing the kitchen and making a pizza, to include shaping the dough and adding their own toppings.  We may have some budding Italian chefs! The 10” pizza should be enough for you to share with your child or you may order from the menu.

As we follow our Core Knowledge curriculum, the shape for the month of January is an octagon.  The colors of the month are black, white, and gray, and the letters g, p, and u.  Our younger classes will learn about the new year and seasonal changes.

I am excited about sharing in the educational activities with your child and participating in the fun learning experiences planned as we head into 2009!

His Blessings,
Ms Margaret

Thank YouThank you!! Shannon Chancey and all MDO/SSP parents who treated our teachers and staff to a delicious dinner and Christmas Party.  It was  a wonderful evening
