First United Methodist Church
is a missions-minded church. We
support missions on every continent of the world through Faith
Promise Giving. Faith promise giving began at FUMC at a Missions
Conference in 1981. The conference began on Friday evening and ended
on Sunday morning with pledges being made at the morning worship
service. As its name implies, faith promise giving is based on the
premise that God is faithful to provide our needs and will enable us
to give what we have pledged to help bring others into a saving
knowledge of Jesus Christ. From a beginning budget of $8000 in 1981, we
now support 15 missionaries, 9 mission agencies as well as
provide support for mission trips by our youth and adults.
Locally we support the
Enterprise Christian Mission, Boy Scouts, Helping Hands,
Enterprise Nursing Home, the Angel Tree Ministry and our
United Methodist Children's Homes. Each summer our youth
participate in a missions opportunity either at home or
away. Our children are encouraged to develop a
heart for missions also. In addition to local trips to the
nursing home and assisted living facilities, they make
layette and school kits for UMCOR, sponsor the
Fill the Ark Campaign for HPI and support Operation Christmas Child.
